International Workshop
"Particles and Polyelectrolytes at Interfaces"

22 - 25 May 2005, Cracow, Poland

Subject Areas

The Workshop will be devoted to theoretical and practical aspects of the phenomena occurring during adsorption of polyelectrolytes and nano- or microparticles at interfaces. The main topics are:

- Interactions in the polyelectrolyte and colloidal systems, transport to the interfaces and adsorption.
- Bulk properties and stability of suspensions of polyelectrolytes nanoparticles, colloids, microcapsulescapsules and their effect on adsorption.
- Architecture of mono and multilayers on surfaces - preparation, characterisation, structure, stability, permeability.
- Applications - encapsulation with polyelectrolytes, targeted drug delivery, functionalized coatings.

Workshop venue

"Particles and Polyelectrolytes at Interfaces" Workshop will take place in the main conference room of the Institute of Catalysis and Surface Chemistry, Polish Academy of Sciences.

Presentations
Keynote lectures (30 + 10 minutes), oral presentations (15 + 5 minutes), and poster session are scheduled during the Workshop. Selection of the contributions and of the form of their presentation will be done by the Organizational Committee basing on the abstract submitted and the time available. Travel and Tourist Information:

Cracow has direct flights to Frankfurt, London, Paris, Rome, Vienna, Zurich, Copenhagen, Budapest, Tel Aviv, New York and Chicago. Number of "cheap airfare airlines" (e.g. EasyJet, WizzAir, SkyEurope, GermanWings, CentralWings) have just begun their operation at Cracow airport. There are also many local connections with Warsaw International Airport. Similarly, Cracow has convenient train connections with Berlin, Prague, Vienna, Leipzig, Kiev, Bratislava, Budapest and other cities. Coming by car is also simple since the major Cracow-Katowice-Berlin highway (A4) approaches the Institute as close as 3 km.
Cracow is a beautiful city where centuries old tradition peacefully co-exists with modern life. Formerly Poland's capital, today Cracow with its population over 700 000 inhabitants is the third largest city of Poland. It is the capital of the Malopolska Voivodship, the centre of social, academic and economic life and one of the most dynamically developing regions of the country. At the same time, the city is regarded as the cultural capital of Poland, with ambitions to be the leader in that field in Central and Eastern Europe. In 1978 Cracow was registered into the UNESCO List of World Heritage, and in 1992 the city was chosen as the European Cultural Capital of 2000, which proved Cracow's importance on the cultural map of Europe. Cracow is Poland's second largest university centre with its 19 university level institutions and over 150,000 students, a number of research institutions providing excellent support for industry, as well as cooperation and technology transfer opportunities for business enterprises active in most sectors of the economy. Cracow is also an exceptional tourist attraction (we host over 4 million visitors every year) and the seat of many cultural institutions. It is the home of artists, a place where world famous poets, musicians and painters are searching for inspiration, and where one can meet them in one of the numerous cafes, pubs and restaurants.
