 Nowy Targ jest historycznym, administracyjnym i gospodarczym centrum Podhala. Miasto zostało założone przez króla polskiego Kazimierza Wielkiego w roku 1346 i w 1996 roku będzie obchodziło 650 lecie swojego istnienia. Od kilku stuleci w każdy czwartek w mieście odbywają się słynne jarmarki. Herb miasta przedstawia postać św. Katarzyny, która jest patronką miejscowego kościoła. Liczy około 33 tys. mieszkańców. Jest położone u zbiegu rzek Biały i Czarny Dunajec, u podnóża Gorców. Posiada niewielkie lotnisko, mieszczące Areoklub Tatrzański - ośrodek szybowcowych lotów "na fali". W Nowym Targu istnieje klub sportowy "Podhale", której drużyna hokejowa popularnie zwana "Szarotkami" jest wielokrotnym mistrzem Polski. |
 Nowy Targ (The New Market Town) is the historic, administrative and economic centre of Podhale region. The town was founded by Polish King Casimir The Great in 1346 and in 1996 will celebrate its 650 anniversary. From several centuries every Thursday in this town famous fairs have taken place. The coat-of-arms of the town imagines the figure of St.Catherina, who is the patroness of local church. Nowy Targ numbers about 33.000 citizens. The town is situated in the confluence of the rivers Biały and Czarny Dunajec (White and Black Dunajec), beneath the Gorce Mts. There is little airport nearby, where is situated the Tatra Aeroclub - the gliders centre. In Nowy Targ acts also Sport Club "Podhale", with the famous hockey team named "Szarotki" ("Edelweisses"), which is the Master of Polish Hockey League from years. |
