The Manorial Complex at Łopuszna, a typical residence of a gentry family of moderate means, consists of the manor and farm buildings. Its history begins in the 16th century when the village of Łopuszna was presented to Walerian Grzywa Poradowski by King Stephen Batory. Early in the 17th century the village was owned by the Sącz castellan Hieronim Przyłęcki. The surviving farm buildings and manor are associated with the name of Jan Prus Lisicki of Lisice who at first held a tenancy of Łopuszna and later bought it. Between the late 18th century and 1949 the estate was owned by the Lisicki, Tetmajer and Lgocki families. In 1949 the owners were dispossessed of the estate and the buildings which, taken over by the Treasury, were conveyed to a state farm. Misappropriated and not renovated, the buildings were falling into disrepair.
Taken over by the Tatra Museum in May 1978, the complex owes its current architectural shape to the conservation and repairs conducted by the Museum in the 1980s, the main objective of which was to preserve the historical strata essential to the lay-out of the complex and the architectural form of the buildings. The Museum of Gentry Culture is being currently organized at Łopuszna. In future the history of the manor and its inhabitants will be presented in interiors furnished with utensils acquired in similar complexes surviving at the foot of the Tatra Mts. At present the public has access to the kitchen. Near the manor, in an art gallery adapted from a former cellar, contemporary artist Marian Gromada presents his works. An interesting thing to see near the gallery is the peasant cottage of the Klamerus family (cottage no. 105), housing an ethnographic exhibition.
The Łopuszna manor is a tourist attraction. Situated in the picturesque valley of the river Dunajec, it is a convenient point of departure for excursionists heading for Gorce and Pieniny Mts and the Spisz region. In the vicinity are numerous precious relics of the folk architecture of the regions of Podhale and Spisz, for instance the church at Dębno. In view of Łopuszna's numerous assets, the Tatra Museum Society has rooms to let in the renovated 'custodian's house'.
