My hobby (apart from science)

Becoming a master of flamenco guitar is my unfulfilled dream.

The following are You Tube links to some of my favourite examples of flamenco guitar playing. The quality of the videos is not always perfect, but this is what I could find on the web. It’s a pity one cannot find better recordings.

1) Sabicas, Malaguena de Lecuona. Beautiful, already classical piece, for which I still cannot find exactly matching scores. It’s a constant problem with flamenco.

2) Sabicas, Arabian Dance. One of the most wonderful world examples of flamenco pieces of Arabic inspiration. In somewhat different version also known as “Castillo Moro”.

3) Paco Pena, Amanecer Arabe (a variant of 2). For me, Paco Pena is about the first in the list of flamenco guitarists.

4) Paco Pena, Alegrias. Very good.

5) Paco Pena & Johnn Williams, Farruca in D. Is classical guitar playing easier than flamenco, or not?

6) Moraito, por Bulerias. I don’t think anybody plays Bulerias better than him.

7) Tomatito, Bulerias. Perfect technique.

8) Rafael Cortes, Granaina. In my opinion, the best Granaina ever composed.

9) Manolo Sanlucar, Elegia (Rondena). And the best Rondena ever composed.

10) Jeronimo Maya. This boy was a flamenco guitar genius. Why don’t we hear him more at present?
